When can I expect my case to settle?
Since medical bills and possible future disability play major roles in settlement values, our injury attorneys cannot begin serious negotiations until all treatment is complete. Our first concern is to insure that you are receiving appropriate medical care and any benefits owed to you while making your recovery. After your medical treatment is complete, we will then gather all necessary data and begin to negotiate settlement with the insurance company. Sometimes, those negotiations can take up to several months. We cannot guarantee that your case will be over in thirty days, as every injury and claim are different. However, your case manager and attorney will try to keep you well informed to the status of your claim and attempt to settle your case as swiftly as possible.
What is the value of my case?
Until we gather all the necessary materials concerning the liability and damage issues in your case, there is no way to estimate the value of your case. Only after the necessary work is done will we have a reliable estimate.
Brumbaugh, Mu & King, P.A. employs a rich staff of trained case managers and legal assistants to work hard along side your attorney for the best possible outcome of your claim. Each claim is assigned a case manager and legal assistant who stay up-to-date on all the procedures and updates pertaining to your case. If you have any updates or questions about your case, please contact your case manager immediately. Keeping your case manager and attorney well informed will insure that actions towards the resolution of your claim occur more swiftly.
Will I be kept up-to-date with the happenings of my case?
Brumbaugh, Mu & King, P.A. understands the importance of open communication between client and lawyer. Thus, we strive to keep you informed whenever there is anything important happening. While we would like to talk to you every week, this is usually not practical, since legal cases often take quite some time to resolve. Rest assured that we are dedicated to the pursuit of your case, and will call you immediately whenever an important developments occurs.
Who should I call if I have a question or information about my case?
If you have any updates or questions about your case, please contact your case manager or attorney immediately. Your case manager can answer most questions about your case, and you'll like how well informed and helpful he or she will be. If your case manager cannot answer a question, he or she will forward the question to your attorney and get an answer for you, or arrange to have your attorney call you. As a firm, we strive to answer all of your questions as promptly as possible.
I'm thinking about filing Bankruptcy. What should I do?
Please call our office immediately if you are considering filing for bankruptcy! Bankruptcy can affect your personal injury case and your personal injury proceeds would be part of your assets in any bankruptcy action. By contacting your attorney or case manager, they can perhaps provide options other than bankruptcy or advise you on how to correctly proceed in filing.
Can Brumbaugh, Mu & King P.A. led me money?
We will do everything we can to help settle your claim and we will advance the costs of the legal action, but we cannot loan you money. The laws of North Carolina are quite specific: it is illegal for an attorney to lend a client money and could result in disciplinary action against our firm.
If you are getting letters from collection agencies or other creditors, we will be happy to write to them and explain that you have an injury claim action in progress. We will ask them to give you more time or defer payment until you receive your settlement.
What costs of litigation can I expect in the handling of my case?
There are various charges besides legal fees that must be paid to prepare your case. Police departments typically charge for a copy of the accident report and physicians will usually bill us for the preparation of their medical reports. Costs can also include bills received from other people about your case, such as court reporters, expert witnesses, and others. We will advance these costs so that you don't have to worry about paying them out of your pocket during the pursuit of your claim. Payments for these costs are paid only if we win or settle your case.
