    Social Security Disability

    North Carolina Social Security Lawyers

If you have a physical or a mental impairment that is preventing you from any kind of gainful employment, you may qualify for Social Security Disability benefits.

You will need to prove to the Social Security Administration that you are not able to perform your former job or any other paying job because of your disability. The disability must be expected to last at least 12 months or result in death. There are exceptions to these requirements. If you have questions regarding your eligibility, it is best to contact an attorney. Our knowledgeable and experienced North Carolina Social Security Lawyers can assist you through the complex process of your social security disability claim.

Do you need social security benefit legal assistance? Our North Carolina Social Security Lawyers can help. Contact our North Carolina Social Security Lawyers, to find out your legal options and rights today!

You can apply for Social Security Disability benefits through the local Social Security office or at their national toll-free number (1-800-772-1213) immediately after the disability occurs. The disability must be expected to last 12 months to receive benefits.

You will need the following documents when applying for Social Security Disability:
    • An original or certified copy of your birth certificate.

    • Social Security numbers of all persons applying for benefits (your spouse and children).

    • Dates of any prior marriages if your spouse is applying for benefits.

    • Documentation of earnings for the past 12 months (a copy of your W-2, federal tax return, last pay stub, or a statement from your employer).
    • Names, addresses, and phone numbers of doctors, hospitals or clinics that have treated you.

    • Medical records and dates of treatment of doctors, hospitals or clinics.

    • A list of all medications you are currently taking.

North Carolina Social Security Lawyers, Brumbaugh, Mu & King, P.A. can assist you with filing the appropriate documentation with the Social Security Administration. If you have filed for Social Security Disability benefits on your own and have been denied, we can assist you with filing a request for reconsideration. This must be done within 60 days of your denial of benefits. Unfortunately, many applicants do get denied on their first request for Social Security Disability benefits. If Social Security should deny the request for reconsideration, you may request a hearing. You have 60 days to file a request for a hearing at the local Social Security office.

It is not necessary to have an attorney when filing for Social Security Disability benefits but is recommended. The Social Security Administration's own statistics show that people who have legal representation are more likely to receive benefits.
